九段アカデミーの英作文添削講座のRWコースは、Read and Writeの頭文字を取ったもの。つまり、英語を読んでそれに対する自分の意見を英語で書き、その英文をネイティブ講師が添削するというものです。
このコースは何が特徴かというと、もともと外国人と接するということは、それがビジネスであっても政治的・文化的な国際交流であっても、目的の為だけの会話では終わらないという事です。
現在AIが大きく発展し、翻訳や通訳にもかなりな精度で介在してきています。言語を単に道具だと思えば、機械の翻訳や通訳でその役割は終えることも出来ますが、そこに人的な交流が入るとするとどうしても自分の専門以外のことも英語で話すことが出来なければなりません。
勿論、それも機械を使えば済むという事も言えますが、通訳は出来ても世界の事情を知らなければ会話にはなりません。つまり、人的な交流には、広範な出来事に対する興味や知識、そしてそれに関する自分の意見を持っていることが必要な訳です。
RWコースは、こういった観点から、色々な話題、ニュースに対して自分の意見を構築するという目的で作られたコースです。実際にこのコースを取られている受講生は、ネット会議で同じような話題が出て来たとか、ほぼ同じような表現が出てきてびっくり、とか、いずれにせよ世界と常に何の話題にもついて行けるようにstand by していることが大事だと、大変評価が高いコースです。次の様なテーマ（ニュース）が課題となっていますので、是非一度体験でお試しください。
特に日本の話題が多いですが、外国人との横飯（外国人と英語やその国の言語を使いながら、一緒に食事をすること。当然、食事中ですから話題は仕事ではなく、一般的な話になります）、には必要な単語や熟語の勉強や、自分の考えのまとめを事前に練習しておくことは、将来役に立ちます。同時に、横飯では、機器は（翻訳機）など使うのは野暮でしょうから、当然自分の口を使った会話になる事でしょう。

RWA1286: Japan’s parliament passed a revision to the country’s Civil Code that will allow divorced parents the option of joint child custody, a change that brings the nation in line with many other countries. The revision, the first to custody rights in nearly 80 years, is to take effect by 2026. It will allow divorced parents to choose either dual or single custody while requiring them to cooperate in ensuring their children’s rights and wellbeing. Under the current law, child custody is granted to only one divorced parent, almost always the mother. (Asahi 2024 May)
RWA1448: Lithium-ion batteries are used in lots of products. But here in Japan, they’ve been involved in more and more fires. And many of the products were already subject to recalls because of battery defects. In July, five people were hurt when a portable charger caught fire on a train in Tokyo. The charger was already under recall. That’s just part of a pattern revealed by an NHK investigation. The investigation covered more than 1,000 cases in the three years and five months through August. It showed at least 400 reported fires linked with products containing lithium-ion batteries. RWA1475: Japan comes up short against Venezuela in WBC quarterfinals. There were no dramatic comebacks or last-second heroics for Japan this time in Miami. Instead, the site that was the launching pad to the World Baseball Classic title in 2023 was where it all came crashing down three years later amid a cacophony of drums and joyful Venezuelans. The loss marks the first time Japan, which has competed in all six editions of the WBC and has won the tournament three times, has failed to reach the semifinal round. (The Japan Times 2026 Mar)
