映画から学ぼう。英語の表現。

英語は世界の言語の中でもっともスラングが多いと言われます。まあ,言ってみれば汚い言葉だらけ、といっても過言ではないくらいです。汚い言葉では負けないイタリア人でさえ、英語にはその数の多さでは負けるといいます。スラングを沢山勉強したら、おおあいつ出来るな、ということにはなるかと思いますが、意味とそのニュアンスをよくわかって使ってください。

 

26．loco ：気の狂った　(スペイン語から)　Who is that loco?  あの気が狂ったような奴はだれだ。

“Neo, this is loco. They’ve got Morpheus in a military-controlled building.” ネオ、それはキチガイ沙汰だ。やつらはモーフィアスを武装されたビルの中に捕えている。from「THE MATRIX」

27.   game ：乗り気である（willing to do something）

Is anybody game for some beer? 誰かビールを飲みたい奴いるか？　I’m game. What about you?  　僕は乗り気だよ。君は？　    “Ethan, you’re going into the embassy in character during a party. 28.  up for grabs：よりどりみどりの、誰でも手に入れられる

29．lame ださい（男）、野暮（な男）（=inept person)

30．mooch off たかる、ねだる　（mooch=beg for money, begger)

“Dude, I’ve been mooching off you for years.” へい、おれは長い事お前にたかってきたんだ。　from 「School of Rock」

31．dump 捨てる、別れる　(おなかを空にする、吐く、排便する=defecate、dump it ＝throw it away)
“If you don’t come up with some money, she’s gonna dump me.”  君が僕にいくらかでもお金を工面しなかったら、彼女は僕を捨てるだろう。　from 「School of Rock」

32．dog 負け犬　(他に、ブス、ダチ、足（複数）、くだらないもの、犬のふん＝dog-do=dog doo, 犬のように食べる）

”What’s up, dog?” どうしたい、負け犬　from 「School of Rock」

33．gig （演奏や出演の）仕事 (一回だけの仕事、一回だけの演奏会）　＊最近は日本でも使われるようになりました。

I had a gig out on the west side, but i couldn’t get there. ウェストサイドで演奏の仕事があったが、そこにたどりつけなかったよ。

”How long’s the gig? ”  “Excuse me?” “How long is the job? “ 演奏する時間は？　なんですって？　仕事の時間のことだよ。　from 「School of Rock」

34．bind 困難な状況　(=problem)

I’ve got a little bind here. 　僕はちょっと困った。　“We’ve never been in a bind like this before.” このような窮地に陥ったことはこれまでありません。

35．upfront 前払いで　（＝up front、あけっぴろげな、正直な）

She wanted yen 100,000 upfront. 彼女は10万前払いを要求した。

36．crapola たわごと、ナンセンス

“We’ll start on this crapola tomorrow.” 明日からこのたわ言に取り掛かろう。　from 「School of Rock」

37．runs 下痢　（the runs=a case of diarrhea)

That stuff we ate gave us the runs. 僕らが食べたあれのせいで下痢になった。

”I got a headache and the runs.” 俺は頭が痛くて下痢をしてるんだ。　from 「School of Rock」

38．suck 酷く不愉快にさせる

This movie sucks.  この映画はてんでくだらない。

“Oh, man, this guy sucks.”　ヘイ、こいつは最悪だな　from 「School of Rock」

39．working stiff 労働者

All the working stiffs want a raise. 労働者は皆昇給を求めている。

“I’m a working stiff, and that’s cool.” 僕は労働者だし、それはいけてるよ。　from 「School of Rock」

40．temp  派遣社員として働く

I do what he does, I’m temping. 彼がやっていることを僕もやっているのさ。派遣社員だよ。　(School of Rock)

41．kick it  元気いっぱいにやる、上手にやる、リラックスする

Yes, I love it. That’s what  I’m talking about. That’s what I want. Rory, you kicked it. 「良かったよ。私が言っていたのはこれよ。これを待ってたの。ロリー、良かったわよ」 from 「THE BODYGUARD」、

I need a few minutes to kick it. ちょっと、リラックスする時間が欲しい。

42. freak out パニックにさせる、異常に興奮させる

I was so frightened, I thought I would freak (out). とても驚いてパニックになりそうだった。　Relax! Don’t freak out! リラックスして、興奮するな。　Are you kidding? I mean this would really freak her out, wouldn’t it? バカなことを言うな。そんなことをしたら彼女は発狂するぞ。From 「THE BODYGUARD」

43．pop 叩く、殴る、撃つ、　pop off=殺す

Please, don’t pop me.　どうか殴らないでくれ。

Somebody wants to pop him(the senator).　誰かが彼（上院議員）を狙っているかもしれない。From 「THE BODYGUARD」

44.  plug 狙撃する、撃つ

I’m surprised you didn’t plug’em. 貴方が彼らを撃ち殺さなかったのが不思議だ。From 「THE BODYGUARD」

45．punk ちんぴら、不良、悪ガキ、軽犯罪者

Ask that punk to come here. あの若造にちょっとここへ来いと言え。

46. big cheese：上司、大物、ボス

I woke up this morning with the big cheese knocking on my door. (私が今朝起きたのは、上司が私のドアをノックしたからだ)、

The Big Cheese wants to see you in his office now.  ボスが及びよ　from 「PRESUMED INNOCENT」

47. upbeat：陽気である

My teacher is very upbeat, and makes the class fun. (私の先生は大変陽気で、クラスを楽しくさせてくれる) 　I prefer music that is a little more upbeat

48.  big guns　：　大立物（大物、重要人物）

My company always brings in the big guns for contract negotiations. (私の会社では契約交渉の時にはいつも重要な人物(大立物)を連れてくるんだ) 　big guns は、力強い二頭筋のこともいう

49．have balls 勇気がある、勇敢である(通常男性だが、女性に使う事もある)

He doesn’t have enough balls for that .彼はそれをやるだけの勇気がない。

50.  belly button へそ

51．broad 女性、売女（卑語）（軽蔑的）、

When is that broad gonna show up? いつ、その女は出てくるんだ。

I never did understand why you put a broad like that in charge of rape and all that sicko shit.
