A fender-bender blocked traffic this morning. 尚、rear-ender は、「追突事故」back-enderとも言う。また、pile-upは、「玉突き衝突事故」の事を言う。I am not talking about a little fender-bender, but a four car pile-up.
これは、「舞台でアガること」を言います。通常は、nervous（緊張する）と言う言葉で表現しますが、その名詞のnervousenessに当たる言葉がこの、stage frightです。Have you ever had stage fright?(アガったことある？）日本人から見ると外国人はアガることなさそうですが、ちゃんとこういう言葉もありますね。
I was having a hard time sleeping even though my family was dead to the world.(家族はぐっすり寝ていたけど、僕はなかなか寝付けなかった。) He had a six pack of Bud and ended up dead to the world on the couch.(彼はビールを６杯飲んで、長椅子で死んだように眠った）
この言葉を中学校か高校の頃に習ったときは、「恐ろしい」と教わっていた。だから、そういう使い方をするものだと思っていたが、やはり、言葉は使う場面で覚えないといけないですね。この言葉は、Great!, Excellent!, 「すごい！」「最高！」と同意語ですね。「恐ろしい」って意味はネイティブも知らないんじゃないかと言う感じですね、使っているのを見たことない。
